Committee Details

Taxation

Mission: To review and consider tax policy issues related to the certified public accountant (CPA) profession and the greater Kentucky business community. Advocate for sound tax and administrative policies at the local, state, and federal levels of government. Determine current position statements and comment on legislative and regulatory activities related to the Society.

Tax Policy Issues:

  • Guiding principles of sound tax policy include clear administrative guidance, certainty, predictability, avoiding double taxation (tax pyramiding), and strongly opposing broadening the sales tax to professional services.
  • Advocate for tax simplification by updating Kentucky’s IRC conformity annually, protecting and enhancing taxpayer rights, repeal the LLET, and centralizing local tax collection at the state or regional level.
  • The Committee leaves determination of tax rates, credits, or incentives to policymakers and business stakeholders, unless the issue relates to the previously noted guiding principles for sound tax policy.
