Overview
This 2-credit-hour course equips tax professions with practical wisdom to navigate the world of retirement finances.
This includes teaching on the identification of the five rules for withdrawal from qualified plans, the definition of a stretch IRA, and a thorough explanation of various withdrawal and distribution considerations. These considerations cover required distributions - rollovers, waiving the 60-day rollover rule, RMD beginning date, qualified charitable distributions, excess contribution penalties - as well as account owner RMD withdrawals, tricks to waive the 50% penalty for failure to take RMD, general Roth IRA distributions, and secrets of retirement withdrawals and tax planning. We'll also dive into proper handling of qualified domestic relations order distributions and how to determine when taxpayers can make withdrawals from their IRA's without paying a penalty.
Attendees will also gain insights on managing inherited IRA's, such as considerations for spouses, eligible designated beneficiaries, and non-spouse beneficiaries. In addition, we will review an incorrect 1099-R form to dissect what does and does not work and why.
